INSIGHT: THE ALCHEMIST AND ITS AUTHOR
PAULO COELHO, a Brazilian author, was born in the city of Rio de Janeiro in 1947. Before choosing literature, he worked in many different sectors. In 1986, PAULO COELHO traveled to Santiago de Compostela, which he detailed in his work The Pilgrimage.
Next year, Paulo Coelho released the Alchemist. His first publisher dropped the work due to low early sales, but it went on to become one of the best-selling Brazilian books of all time. What is it about this book that makes it so successful? What makes it connect with so many individuals from all across the planet and across ethnicities for so long?
The key notion which the Alchemist strives to instill in us :
“You came so that you could learn about your dreams,” said the old woman. “And dreams are the language of God. When he speaks in our language, I can interpret what he has said. But if he speaks in the language of the soul, it is only you who can understand”, The Alchemist.
The Alchemist's fundamental precept is to chase your aspirations by following your heart's desires. Across the journey, the boy learns to listen to his heart and to comprehend the language of omens. There is knowledge to be gained from each impediment and hurdle that the young boy confronts. Each lesson educates the young boy to follow his heart's desire, as it is God's way of speaking to him.
Expectations and fortitude:
In not just The Alchemist, but throughout his existence, a substantial percentage of Paulo Coelho's view on existence can be interpreted as a response to the trivial obligations that individuals put on us, which he argues are usually erroneous. In the Alchemist he quotes, "Everyone seems to have a clear idea about how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.” He feels that people who have not sought a path that they genuinely desire for themselves will channel their animosity against others.
INTUITION'S POWER AND IMPORTANCE:
“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it,” The Alchemist.
Coelho's conviction in the power and relevance of intuition is obvious in practically every sentence of the work. He claims that our instinct interacts with us in ways that our conventional intellect cannot fathom, and that it will unveil insights to us that we would otherwise overlook.
Many people, according to Coelho, remain unaware of this as time passes, and as a result, lose contact with their inner vigor and authority over their actions.
This erosion of inner strength and erroneous acquiescence of a hellish existence beyond their command, according to Coelho, is the world's greatest deception to which so many people succumb.
Love :
The Alchemist stands out as a romantic drama that denies the existence that romantic affection must be at the core of human livelihoods. Each individual has a distinctive path that is unfettered by the deeds of others.
The real treasure Santiago pursues is a metaphor of human destiny or ambition, but he is willing to relinquish it when he encounters the girl of his fantasies in a desert oasis He encounters an alchemist in the desert who advises him that his woman's affection will only be validated legitimate if she is truly ready to aid him to acquire his treasure.
Conclusion :
The Alchemist's underlying principle is one of individual accountability and the quest for bliss Although there are religious aspects (such as the concept of God), Coelho's ideology is not tethered towards any single belief system which is why it's been possible for him to attain such a broad and varied following.
